Ty'n y Waun Solar
An innovative solar PV scheme that would sustainably supply the total power needs of 12,500 homes whilst bringing a wide range of benefits to Heol y Cyw and the surrounding area.
Current Project Status
We began engagement on this project in 2021 with politicians, Community Councils, BCBC Councillors, the Commoners Association and Board of Conservators. We held two site open days, arranged two different brochure deliveries around the local area and held drop in sessions at Heol y Cyw Welfare Hall and Bryncethin Community Centre.
The full planning application for Ty’n y Waun Solar was submitted to PEDW in June 2023 and a decision is expected in early 2025.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Solar power is a low emission form of energy production, and the environmental impact of installation is negligible when compared to the impact of more conventional energy sources. Ty’n y Waun Solar will supply electricity to the local distribution network and produce 35-40MW of electricity every year, that’s the equivalent total power required for over 12,500 homes.
Ty’n y Waun Solar will be located on land between Heol y Cyw and Bryncethin.
This solar site will reduce the carbon emissions created in supplying Bridgend’s energy needs by around 15,000 tons of carbon every year, for the foreseeable future.
No – solar panels contain no moving parts and thus produce no noise once installed.
The site will be in complete darkness at night, with no security lighting.
All schools within a 10km radius of the site have been offered a free school visit and free transport to our Parc Stormy site for a guided tour. Schools that have visited so far include:
